Dwarves

The dwarves of Mystara differ little from those described in the Player's Handbook

For more information of dwarves, see GAZ 6: The Dwarves of Rockhome and GAZ 7: The Northern Reaches.

The Dwarves of Rockhome

The Kingdom of Rockhome is said to be the ancestral land of the dwarven race. Dwarven history says that the Immortal Kagyar created the very first dwarf high atop Point Everast - formed from the very rock upon which he stood.

Since that ancient time, the dwarves have spread out to other lands as dwarven craftsmanship is highly valued in kingdoms far and wide. However, though separated by many miles, the dwarves who live in these far-flung colonies seldom lose their heritage.

Racial Abilities: The dwarves of Rockhome have all of the dwarven racial traits listed on pages 14 and 15 of the Player's Handbook except as follows:

Dwarves in Other Lands

Colonies of dwarves are quite common in many of the kingdoms that make up the Known World. In most cases, the dwarves acknowledge the rightful rule of the local government and tend to keep to themselves - living either in separate settlements or within "dwarf-towns" within the major cities of other races. The dwarves of these colonies are little different from their stay-at-home brethren. Following are two examples of these colonies.

The Kingdom of Stoutfellow

This semi-autonomous nation exists within the Empire of Alphatia, and was colonized by dwarves from Rockhome around 950 AC. Halflings and gnomes also reside here.

The Northern Reaches

The Soderfjord Jarldoms and the kingdoms of Ostland and Vestland are home to many dwarves. Many have picked up a bit of the human culture in these lands.

The Modrigswerg

Also called "moulder dwarves," legend has it that this ancient dwarven clan was exiled from Rockhome long ago for pursuit of forbidden lore and trafficking with dark powers. Master artificers, their craftsmanship is legendary. However, they are said to be cursed; forever condemned to suffer distrust, treachery and madness.

It is said they live solitary lives in the remote wilds of the lands that make up the Northern Reaches (Ostland, Vestland and Soderfjord). Giants, evil wizards, foolish adventurers and even the Immortals are rumored to seek the Modrigswerg for their abilities to craft devious mechanical traps and magical items without equal.
